And even though I was lucky enough to have a steady guy a single dad in the picture, questions came up all the time. Was it okay for all of us to sleep over at one of our houses? Should we take vacations together? When this relationship ended and another one began a few months later, I was in uncharted waters again. Based on these experiences and the advice of JoAnn Magdoff, a psychotherapist in private practice in New York, I came up with ten rules for single moms. If you’re dating-or want to be but feel nervous about it-keep these tips in mind.

Let me start by saying, there are good single mothers in our society and I applaud those women. They work tirelessly, with little or no help, to see that their children are provided for and well rounded. The sacrifices they make for their families cannot be measured in any lifetime. This clarion call is not about those women. This is about the numerous modern day single moms who set their sons on a sure path of rebellion, disrespect and dishonor.

Most of those boys will grow up to be unproductive men in our society. For irrefutable proof one only needs to examine: The high school drop out rate amongst boys from single-family homes. The incarceration statistics for boys raised by single moms. Am I attacking or demonizing single mothers? A thousand times no! I am dealing with a critical issue that has devastated multiple generations. One that has not been properly dealt with for too long. I have watched this particular group of single mothers reek havoc and sow seeds of discord in the lives of countless children.

By Kate Kripke Comments Trigger warning: The following post is one which discusses pre-term and neonatal loss and the process that many women and families go through when they have lost a baby. If you are feeling vulnerable at this time and this post does not speak to your experience, consider not reading it as it may cause you distress at a time when you are trying to regain strength. Losing a baby though miscarriage, elective termination, stillbirth, childbirth, after a NICU stay, SIDS, or any other time is, without a doubt, one of the most difficult experiences that a parent will ever endure.

There are no words to explain the depth of despair that a parent goes through when attempting to understand the shift that occurs when all hopes and expectations suddenly drop out from underneath anything stable. It is an experience that many will never need to make sense of and also one that many others will swim through unexpectedly. It is tragic and drastic and totally and completely unfair and yet thousands upon thousands of families find themselves in this position each year.

HOW DOES THE SCAM WORKS? A brief summary. Basically, it is a scam where a lonely foreign man gets acquainted over the Internet with an attractive supposedly single .

Dear Captain Awkward, I am a 34 year old straight woman in an open marriage with a 39 year straight man. I have taken far more advantage of the openness of our marriage than my husband, at least until recently. I have had a string of long-term affairs and short-term flings. During the past 8 months I have basically been living with another man in a neighbouring town to the one I live in.

I am drawn to men who are starkly different than my husband, who is an intellectual, moderate in terms of his vices and has a disdain for the type of men who spend every evening in a pub. I have a drinking problem but it is not a problem I feel any need to resolve and I am drawn to men who are also drinkers like me. I can have a glass of wine in the morning and drink until I pass out in the afternoon and wake up when my lover comes home and go to the pub with him and start drinking again.

This past Sunday my lover and I went to a country pub and I glanced in the dining room and saw my husband with a beautiful older woman, but not just any woman. It was my mother and, from the way they looked at each other and were touching, I could tell instantly that it was more than a friendly lunch; they were quite obviously in love with each other. My husband, who is also handsome and fit, looked like he was happier than I had ever seen him.

I still can’t figure out why people assume that single people with kids can’t be happy. Contrary to popular opinion, we are not all sitting sadly on the couch in an ill-fitting pair of yoga pants shoveling ice cream in our mouths while lamenting our younger, child-free days in which we had perkier boobs.

All right, sometimes these couch-ice-cream-shoveling sessions do happen, but the majority of us are no more miserable than moms who do have partners. Parenting is hard AF no matter how you do it.

Some days, it feels impossible to let go of the paralyzing fear that grips all single parents at one time or another.
