And this was a gay cake.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia Vol. Though not, as the long-current legend of its origin affirmed, the direct work of the Apostles, it has its roots in apostolic times, and embodies, with much fidelity, apostolic teaching. It will be seen immediately that it had an important place in the early church, when as yet no creed but itself existed.
It was the creed that could be appealed to as held by the church in all its great branches, and so as forming the test of catholicity. This is a special reason for considering the foundations on which these articles of faith rest. In the first place, what is the creed? Here, first of all, it is to be pointed out that the received form of the creed is not its oldest or original form.
The creed exists in two forms — a shorter and a longer; the former, known as the Old Roman Form, going back certainly as early as the middle of the 2nd century about AD , the latter, the enlarged form, in its present shape, of much later date. Its final form was probably given to it in South Gaul not before the middle of the 5th century in one or two clauses, as late as the 7th. It is desirable, at the outset, to put these two forms of the creed in translation clearly before the reader.
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son our Lord, who was born of the Holy Ghost and the Virgin Mary; crucified under Pontius Pilate, and buried; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father, from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. And in the Holy Ghost; the holy Church; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; the life everlasting.
The Received Form of the creed reads thus: I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.

Christian Forums Need advice Sometimes when my wife and I have arguments she brings up things that my pastor or my pastor’s wife said about me to strengthen her argument. These things get under my skin more than the argument itself because the pastor or pastor’s wife did not tell me these things directly.
This issue has been going on for about a year. For example my wife said that the pastor said I am “rigid” or “militant” about my faith and the pastor’s wife said I “take church too seriously”. My wife tries to downplay these things because she works on the church staff and I am not privy to all the internal conversations and context in which any comments were made so she says I should not be so worked up.
These notes try to offer a relatively short theological statement. Briefly, baptism is being immersed in water in the name of the Trinity for repentance and faith in Jesus denoting entry into the Christian Church. But a few points need to be unpacked from this statement: In the bible baptism is always linked with faith in Jesus. See also Common Questions about Christening.

Covenant theology Reformed theologians use the concept of covenant to describe the way God enters fellowship with people in history. The terms of the covenant are that God provides a blessed life in the garden on condition that Adam and Eve obey God’s law perfectly. Because Adam and Eve broke the covenant by eating the forbidden fruit , they became subject to death and were banished from the garden.
This sin was passed down to all mankind because all people are said to be in Adam as a covenantal or “federal” head. Federal theologians usually infer that Adam and Eve would have gained immortality had they obeyed perfectly. In it, God graciously offers salvation from death on condition of faith in God.
Reformed Singles. likes. Blog & Mablog: Joseph and Monique – One of the great errors of our day regarding marriage is the idea that the sentiments of this wonderful day are somehow last ing in themselves. But they are not.
The Latin word sola means “alone”, “only”, or “single”. The use of the phrases as summaries of teaching emerged over time during the Reformation, based on the overarching principle of sola scriptura by scripture alone. This idea contains the four main doctrines on the Bible: The necessity and inerrancy were well-established ideas, garnering little criticism, though they later came under debate from outside during the Enlightenment. The most contentious idea at the time though was the notion that anyone could simply pick up the Bible and learn enough to gain salvation.
Though the reformers were concerned with ecclesiology the doctrine of how the church as a body works , they had a different understanding of the process in which truths in scripture were applied to life of believers, compared to the Catholics’ idea that certain people within the church, or ideas that were old enough, had a special status in giving understanding of the text.
The second main principle, sola fide by faith alone , states that faith in Christ is sufficient alone for eternal salvation. Though argued from scripture, and hence logically consequent to sola scriptura, this is the guiding principle of the work of Luther and the later reformers. Because sola scriptura placed the Bible as the only source of teaching, sola fide epitomises the main thrust of the teaching the reformers wanted to get back to, namely the direct, close, personal connection between Christ and the believer, hence the reformers’ contention that their work was Christocentric.

Have your say A crowd-funding appeal has been launched in Yorkshire to save the grave of pioneering Victorian anti-slavery campaigner Mary Anne Rawson. But for decades, the grave of Mary Anne Rawson has lain untouched and uncared for in a disused burial ground in Sheffield. It looked as though the historic site may be lose forever when the disused graveyard in Attercliffe was put up for sale early last year by the United Reformed Church which owns the land.
Penny Rea, chair of the Friends of Zion Graveyard group, says she had been aware the grave was at the site for about five years thanks to a local history project but sprung into action after hearing the site was going to be sold early last year. After persuading the landowners to give them access to look for the grave, the group managed to locate it within minutes. The grave was really overgrown but quite amazingly we found it intact.
It took just 20 minutes as one of our group had done conservation work in graveyards before and had an idea where to look. He swept the undergrowth away and we saw the family name. It was absolutely extraordinary and it sent shivers down my spine. At that stage we were just a group of people, so we launched the Friends group.
